SYNOPSIS
Shop Floor was shot in a major department store in central London and uses the in-store furniture displays as film sets. The film reveals a disrupted account of a young middle-class Chinese family as the go about the routines of domestic everyday life. Their night is interrupted by the arrival of a ghost-like European couple that exist in an atemporal dimension who manage to step into the future of our protagonist’s lives. Through the use of location, cast and narrative the film elicits notions of alternative modernity’s, global divisions of labor, transoceanic capitalism and the emergence of a new middle class.
